UFC’s pay-per-view business, which the company is built on, continues to sink. The early estimates for UFC 139 are in, and it marks the third-straight PPV that didn’t crack the 300,000 sales mark. UFC 139 reportedly only did around 270,000 buys, despite having big names on it like Dan Henderson, Shogun Rua, Wanderlei Silva, Cung Le and Urijah Faber.
To put this number in perspective, the UFC only had three PPVs sell under 300,000 buys in 2010. As mentioned, this is now three-straight in 2011 and five total for the year. In 2009 all of the company’s pay-per-views sold a minimum of 350,000 buys. That being said, the UFC produced far less pay-per-views in 2009 than they do today, which might go a long ways towardexplaining why the UFC can’t draw flies nowadays – oversaturation. Regardless of the reason, it seems to be getting worse – but at least they have their main cash cow, Brock Lesnar, reappearing next month.
